Siempre tienen alguna explicaci\u00f3n, y casi siempre hay una gesti\u00f3n detr\u00e1s.  <\/p>\n<p>Una de las caracter\u00edsticas de los aviones ingleses es que son buenos para los ingleses y los pa\u00edses de lo que fue su imperio colonial, lo que se llama el Commonwealth, o Mancomunidad Brit\u00e1nica de Naciones. Los intentos por vender afuera, casi siempre, han fracasado.  <\/p>\n<p>Probablemente, la principal causa de esto haya sido la injerencia del gobierno en la industria. Todas las especificaciones de estas m\u00e1quinas salieron de alguna comisi\u00f3n oficial que vel\u00f3 por las necesidades del imperio, y jam\u00e1s se preocup\u00f3 por pensar en un avi\u00f3n dise\u00f1ado para el mundo. \u00c9sa es la principal diferencia con la industria norteamericana.  <\/p>\n<p>Por esto, las cifras de producci\u00f3n hist\u00f3ricas de los aviones ingleses, por lo general, son bajas, m\u00e1s cercanas a las decenas que a las centenas. Tambi\u00e9n hay que reconocer que muchos aviones ingleses llegaron tarde al mercado (Bristol Britannia), o fueron obsoletos desde el momento en que se empezaron a desarrollar (De Havilland Dragon).  <\/p>\n<p>El Airspeed Ambassador es un buen ejemplo de avi\u00f3n ingl\u00e9s. Fue propuesto por la Comisi\u00f3n Barbazon en 1943 como reemplazo del DC-3, pero reci\u00e9n hizo su primer vuelo en 1947. Su competidor objetivo fue el Convair 240\/340\/440, que se vendi\u00f3 bien en todo el mundo, mientras que el \u00fanico cliente que tuvo el Ambassador fue BEA (British European Airways), que compr\u00f3 veinte m\u00e1quinas, que entraron en servicio en 1952. Siguiendo una costumbre tambi\u00e9n inglesa, prestaron un servicio que se llam\u00f3 <em>Elizabethan Class<\/em>, en homenaje a la reina.  <\/p>\n<p>Pas\u00f3 sin pena ni gloria. En rigor, lleg\u00f3 tarde, porque no pod\u00eda competir con los turboh\u00e9lices de su momento. Fue sacado de servicio en un proceso que culmin\u00f3 en 1958, un mal momento para vender pistoneros usados, porque hab\u00eda una gran oferta mundial de esos aviones, que ser\u00edan pronto reemplazados por reactores, y ya nadie en su sano juicio pensaba en hacer negocios con motores de pist\u00f3n.  <\/p>\n<p>Pero en la Argentina de entonces estaban pasando cosas extra\u00f1as para el mundo aeron\u00e1utico. El gobierno de la revoluci\u00f3n libertadora, encabezado por el general Pedro Eugenio Aramburu, hab\u00eda producido una suerte de desregulaci\u00f3n del mercado aerocomercial, adelantada m\u00e1s de veinte a\u00f1os con respecto a la desregulaci\u00f3n norteamericana de 1978, y en nuestro pa\u00eds era posible hacer realidad el sue\u00f1o de la aerol\u00ednea propia sin muchas complicaciones.  <\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\/gaceta\/wp-101\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/11\/venden2.jpg?w=1140\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Un antiguo cliente de material ingl\u00e9s, hab\u00eda decidido reemplazar sus De Havilland Heron por los Vickers Viscount, y busc\u00f3 vender los aviones viejos en la Argentina, para lo cual los anunci\u00f3 all\u00ed&nbsp; (archivo: Pablo Luciano Potenze).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Se crearon decenas de empresas en esos a\u00f1os, pero la mayor\u00eda fueron muy improvisadas, y estaban dispuestas a comprar casi cualquier avi\u00f3n, sin meditar sobre su rentabilidad futura. As\u00ed fue que llegaron a nuestros aeropuertos Curtiss C-46, Douglas DC-3 y DC-4, Lockheed Lodestar, Beechcraft C-45 y otras m\u00e1quinas obsoletas. \u00bfPor qu\u00e9 no podr\u00eda pensarse en vender aqu\u00ed los Airspeed Ambassador?  <\/p>\n<p>El aviso que acompa\u00f1a esta nota fue publicado en <em>La Prensa<\/em> de Buenos Aires el 9 de febrero de 1957. Es una curiosidad porque, como dije al principio, nadie compra un avi\u00f3n porque ve un aviso en el diario, pero dada la falta de conocimientos de algunos empresarios locales, val\u00eda la pena tentarlos.  <\/p>\n<p>No se vendi\u00f3 ninguno de estos aviones en el pa\u00eds. La mayor\u00eda terminaron en manos de operadores brit\u00e1nicos y del Commonwealth.  <\/p>\n<p>Unos meses despu\u00e9s la experiencia se repiti\u00f3, pero en su variante uruguaya.
