No es un auto cualquiera, es un auto pensado para cambiar el concepto del auto de calle, el Tucker\u201948.<\/p>\n<p>Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial la industria de los pa\u00edses beligerantes redujo a un m\u00ednimo la producci\u00f3n de productos civiles para concentrarse en el esfuerzo b\u00e9lico. Los autom\u00f3viles norteamericanos, que todos los a\u00f1os ten\u00edan un modelo nuevo, cortaron su serie entre 1943 y 1945. Era l\u00f3gico que todos esperaran la paz para disfrutar de los adelantos tecnol\u00f3gicos, y volver a las costumbres tradicionales.<\/p>\n<p>Preston Tucker (1903 &#8211; 1956), un empresario automovil\u00edstico con antecedentes como innovador y varios triunfos deportivos en su haber, decidi\u00f3 llevar a la pr\u00e1ctica el ideal del autom\u00f3vil que concentrara todas las nuevas tecnolog\u00edas en un dise\u00f1o revolucionario.<\/p>\n<p>Y realmente hizo algo revolucionario, no s\u00f3lo en lo est\u00e9tico, sino en lo tecnol\u00f3gico, tratando de incluir en un solo auto todas las novedades disponibles despu\u00e9s de la contienda. Por supuesto, muchas de esas novedades proven\u00edan de la aviaci\u00f3n, una disciplina que entonces gozaba de un prestigio sin igual. Tucker no vacil\u00f3, en su promoci\u00f3n, en marcar todo lo aeron\u00e1utico que ten\u00eda su auto, empezando por el motor, que en realidad era un motor Franklin de helic\u00f3ptero, modificado para funcionar enfriado por l\u00edquido, ubicado en la parte posterior del veh\u00edculo. As\u00ed logr\u00f3 atraer la atenci\u00f3n del pa\u00eds, y evidentemente del mundo. <\/p>\n<p>Un dise\u00f1o de tales caracter\u00edsticas ten\u00eda que tener, y tuvo, problemas de desarrollo fenomenales, pero la principal complicaci\u00f3n fue otra. La empresa de Tucker fue acusada de fraudes, siendo cerrada por las autoridades. S\u00f3lo se fabricaron cincuenta y un autos, que hoy los coleccionistas cotizan en el orden del mill\u00f3n de d\u00f3lares.<\/p>\n<p>El aviso que hoy nos acompa\u00f1a fue publicado en la revista Continente de Buenos Aires en julio de 1948, y es una muestra de ese prestigio que ten\u00eda la tecnolog\u00eda aeron\u00e1utica en la postguerra inmediata. La lectura detenida del texto muestra a las claras una intenci\u00f3n de mostrar un auto decididamente aeron\u00e1utico.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s es una rareza, porque suena dif\u00edcil de creer que hubiera un representante de una marca como Tucker dispuesto a vender sus autos en la Argentina, un pa\u00eds que en ese momento estaba entrando en una importante crisis de balanza de pagos con Estados Unidos.
