Aprovechando mi estancia en la costa oeste de los Estados Unidos, el 15 de octubre pasado tuve oportunidad de probar la sensaci\u00f3n de volar en parapente. <\/p>\n<p>Desde siempre la experiencia del vuelo me apasiona, he hecho vuelos en planeadores, ultralivianos, helic\u00f3pteros, avionetas, biplanos y aviones comerciales, una de las \u00abfiguritas\u00bb que me faltaban era el parapente.<\/p>\n<p>Pens\u00e9 que como esta es una zona monta\u00f1osa seria mas f\u00e1cil encontrar un lugar elevado, pero el dia que vol\u00e9 se hac\u00eda desde un banco de arena sobre el r\u00edo Columbia, en vez de hacerlo desde una colina o monta\u00f1a. Cabe destacar que el r\u00edo Columbia separa a los estados de Washington y Oregon, en el noroeste del pa\u00eds. La base se partida estaba ubicada en un banco de arena junto al r\u00edo, en un suburbio de Portland, Oreg\u00f3n. <\/p>\n<p>Antes de comenzar el vuelo, lo fundamental es equiparse para el mismo. El equipo b\u00e1sico consisti\u00f3 en un casco, un sencillo mono de aviador que va sobre la ropa y el chaleco salvavidas, pues \u00edbamos a volar sobre el agua.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\/gaceta\/wp-101\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/para2.jpg?w=1140\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Preparando el ala sobre la playa (foto: Ricardo Viti).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>La maniobra desde el banco de arena se realizo con una cuerda que arrastraba una lancha, como si fuera \u00abparasailing\u00bb pero con la diferencia que ir\u00edamos mucho mas alto, hasta los 3000 ft (unos 1000 m) de altura aproximadamente, y soltar\u00edamos la cuerda para planear hasta el suelo. Me toco una instructora alemana, Maren Ludwig, muy guapa, que me explico como har\u00edamos el vuelo y las diversas alternativas del mismo. <\/p>\n<p>Lo mas importante, y probablemente lo mas dif\u00edcil, es lograr previo al despegue que el ala se encuentre desplegada sobre la cabeza de la tripulaci\u00f3n, despu\u00e9s es mucho mas simple que cualquier otra aeronave que he intentado volar. El seguir a la lancha no requiere mucho esfuerzo, salvo mantenerse fuera del radio de giro (en el ala delta o en el planeador estas maniobras son mucho mas complicadas y peligrosas).<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse\" id=\"table2\" border=\"0\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<th align=\"center\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-5501201466418085\";\n\/* rectangular WP *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"3799649617\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 468;\ngoogle_ad_height = 60;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/div>\n<p>En general me pareci\u00f3 muy simple el vuelo en parapente. Solo hay dos controles, una cuerda de cada lado que recoge la punta del ala haciendo que el parapente gire hacia el lado que se realiza la maniobra. Tambi\u00e9n se puede tirar de las dos cuerdas a la vez, esto act\u00faa como freno y eventualmente produce una perdida, haciendo que el ala se colapse peligrosamente. <\/p>\n<p>Una vez alcanzados los 3000 ft soltamos la cuerda, y pr\u00e1cticamente no se sinti\u00f3 ninguna diferencia, salvo mas tranquilidad y la sensaci\u00f3n de estar quietos en el cielo. En el planeador o el ala delta cuando se suelta la cuerda se siente diferente, es mucho mas notable la diferencia entre volar remolcado \u00f3 no. La posici\u00f3n de vuelo es c\u00f3moda, uno va sentado, y la turbulencia se nota muy poco, apenas unos \u00absaltitos\u00bb. <\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\/gaceta\/wp-101\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/para3.jpg?w=1140\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Primer plano del autor y su instructora volando sobre el rio Columbia (foto: Ricardo Viti).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Una vez libres en el aire, intente giros de 180 grados hacia la izquierda y la derecha. Maren me demostr\u00f3 giros realmente escarpados, donde gir\u00e1bamos como un trombo y se sent\u00eda la fuerza centrifuga aplastarnos contra el asiento. A diferencia de otras aeronaves, en el parapente no hay controles para subir o bajar, es solo el girar hacia un lado u otro, y la reacci\u00f3n del ala es tambi\u00e9n mas suave, por lo que hay que esperar a que reaccione. La velocidad de vuelo, es constantes y de aproximadamente unos 40 km\/h.<\/p>\n<p>Una vez cerca del suelo, ambos salimos de la silla y nos quedamos colgados hasta el aterrizaje, donde a ultimo momento el piloto frena el ala para disminuir la velocidad y tomar tierra. <\/p>\n<p>Lo cierto es que disfrute mucho de la sensaci\u00f3n de vuelo y la experiencia vali\u00f3 la pena.
