height: 264px;\" \/> <\/a> <div class=\"tiled-gallery-caption\" itemprop=\"caption description\"> La p\u00e9rtiga de reaprovisionamiento ya est\u00e1 abajo y a la espera de los F-16 (foto: Luis Quintana). <\/div> <\/div> <\/div> <!-- close group --> <\/div> <!-- close row --> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Gracias a la gentileza de la embajada norteamericana en Santiago Chile y de la USAF, tuve oportunidad de embarcar en un avi\u00f3n <strong>KC-10A Extender<\/strong> de la USAF para observar como es una misi\u00f3n real de reabastecimiento en el aire (m\u00e1s de 8 horas de vuelo) y ver como los pilotos de la Fuerza A\u00e9rea de Chile (FACH) aplican en forma pr\u00e1ctica sus conocimientos de repostaje.<\/p>\n<p>A medida que el d\u00eda tan esperado se acercaba y lograba averiguar m\u00e1s detalles del vuelo, la expectaci\u00f3n crec\u00eda cada vez m\u00e1s. Es que, a\u00fan a pesar de haber volado en FIDAE 2006 en otro KC-10 Extender repostando un F-16C y un F-15C de la USAF sobre la costa central de Chile, esta vez los aviones receptores ser\u00edan los aviones F-16 de la FACH.<\/p>\n<p>El d\u00eda anterior al vuelo me enter\u00e9 que este tendr\u00eda 8 horas de duraci\u00f3n y, que un <strong>KC-135 Stratotanker<\/strong> que hab\u00eda salido ese d\u00eda con otro grupo de prensa acreditada reabasteci\u00f3 nada menos que ocho F-16s de la FACH y que eso hab\u00eda ocurrido sobrevolando el ambiente natural de operaciones de estas aeronaves, vale decir el Norte chileno.<\/p>\n<p>Es as\u00ed como el jueves 4 de abril me encontraba a las 07:00 horas en la sala de prensa de FIDAE, en compa\u00f1\u00eda de los representantes de otros medios acreditados, esperando salir rumbo al avi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<div align=\"center\">\n<div class=\"tiled-gallery type-rectangular tiled-gallery-unresized\" data-original-width=\"1140\" data-carousel-extra='{&quot;blog_id&quot;:1,&quot;permalink&quot;:&quot;https:\\\/\\\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\\\/gaceta\\\/wp-101\\\/repostando-los-vipers-la-fach\\\/&quot;,&quot;likes_blog_id&quot;:26943182}' itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageGallery\" > <div class=\"gallery-row\" style=\"width: 1140px; Los aviones est\u00e1n configurados con dos estanques sub-alares y un misil de pr\u00e1cticas.<\/p>\n<p>La maniobra de reabastecimiento la inicia el biplaza mientras los tres restantes aviones esperan su turno en formaci\u00f3n abierta a la izquierda del KC-10. (foto: Luis Quintana). <\/div> <\/div> <\/div> <!-- close group --> <\/div> <!-- close row --> <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>A la hora se\u00f1alada nos avisan que los F-16 est\u00e1n pr\u00f3ximos a llegar por lo que todos vamos a tomar nuevamente posiciones y esta vez yo voy junto al \u201cboom operator\u201d (operador de la lanza de reaprovisionamiento de combustible).<\/p>\n<p>En una breve y amena charla, entre otras cosas me se\u00f1ala detalles sobre su labor indicando que lo m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil siempre son las operaciones nocturnas y\/o con mal tiempo y que el avi\u00f3n m\u00e1s complicado de repostar es el carguero C-5 Galaxy debido a que el recept\u00e1culo no se encuentra asim\u00e9trico con el eje de longitudinal del aparato.<\/p>\n<p>Pero la charla se ve interrumpida con el controlado acercamiento del F-16B MLU 735. por lo que la sesi\u00f3n de la ma\u00f1ana termina con los dos F-16 reci\u00e9n repostados alej\u00e1ndose r\u00e1pidamente.<\/p>\n<p>La tripulaci\u00f3n nos se\u00f1ala que el siguiente turno de repostaje ser\u00e1\u2026 \u00a1en dos horas m\u00e1s! Con tan larga espera aprovechamos de almorzar las meriendas que cada cual llev\u00f3, revisar las fotos y algunos de hasta dormir un rato.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Turno tarde<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Gracias a un largo rato sentado en la cabina, aprovecho de conocer m\u00e1s datos sobre el Orca Siete Cero. El KC-10 en el que volamos es un \u201cmodelo 82\u201d, ya que su matr\u00edcula es 82-0192 y est\u00e1 basado en la base a\u00e9rea Travis (California), que alberga los KC-10 desde 1994.<\/p>\n<p>El KC-10 es un avanzado modelo de tanquero comparado con el menos moderno KC-135. Nuevamente, se repite la operaci\u00f3n de la ma\u00f1ana, tanto en la forma como en la cantidad de aparatos: Los Block 50 primero y los MLU despu\u00e9s. El biplaza primero y los monoplazas despu\u00e9s. Los otros dos MLU que faltaron en la ma\u00f1ana tampoco aparecieron en la tarde.<\/p>\n<p>Y as\u00ed, la jornada llega a su fin. El vuelo de regreso a Santiago nos permite aterrizar en la pista 17L y terminamos aparcados en la posici\u00f3n que hasta la ma\u00f1ana al salir ocupara el Airbus A380.<\/p>\n<p>Viendo las fotos y recordando las im\u00e1genes de los aviones que se recortan magn\u00edficamente sobre el desierto, no puedo dejar de recordar a nuestro inmortal Hawker Hunter que pase\u00f3 orgulloso la estrella solitaria en esos mismos lugares.<\/p>\n<p>Ahora los modernos F-16 han tomado su senda. Las nuevas capacidades que la FACH ha adquirido contemplan tambi\u00e9n nuevos desaf\u00edos, por lo cual est\u00e1 comprometida en superarlos para ser con toda propiedad, la <strong>celosa guardiana
