Lejos de la ajetreada vida en la ciudad nos sumimos es un placentero paseo (foto Esteban G. Brea).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Miami, aeropuerto Opa Locka: El vuelo de hoy consiste en ir desde el aeropuerto de Miami al de Naples, un peque\u00f1o pueblo en la costa Oeste de Florida. Hay olor a tierra mojada ya que llovi\u00f3 hace un rato. El cielo est\u00e1 gris por las nubes. Reviso el Cessna 172 matr\u00edcula N952AC que me llevar\u00e1 en mi viaje. Tres de sus cuatro asientos van vac\u00edos.  <\/p>\n<p>El peque\u00f1o motor arranca con un rugido y la h\u00e9lice frente a mi empieza a girar. Pronto el peque\u00f1o avi\u00f3n y yo corremos por la pista. A nuestra espalda, hacia el Oeste, el sol empieza a ocultarse. Mientras trepo, giro el avi\u00f3n para ir a buscarlo. En el cielo aun es de d\u00eda; abajo m\u00edo las luces nocturnas de la ciudad est\u00e1n por todos lados. M\u00e1s adelante terminan de pronto y todo est\u00e1 oscuro. Abro la ventana para tocarlas y un rico aroma invade la cabina. Huelo a tierra mojada, a nafta y otro sabor que no puedo precisar. Cuando saco la mano por la ventanilla la siento humedecerse. Delante de m\u00ed no hay nada. Solo el gris de la nube que se torna p\u00e1lido a medida que sigo subiendo.  <\/p>\n<p>De pronto salgo de la capa y me encuentro volando en un mar blanco. Estamos flotando sobre infinitos campos de algod\u00f3n. Estabilizo el avi\u00f3n a unos metros encima de el. Sobre mi el cielo est\u00e1 oscuro y veo brillar algunas estrellas. Justo adelante, el sol que abandon\u00f3 la tierra, amarillo y naranja, se demora aun en las alturas. A medida que baja sus rayos tocan las nubes y el campo blanco se ti\u00f1e de tornasol. Algunas nubes se alzan junto a m\u00ed y ahora volamos entre multicolores monta\u00f1as. Estamos quietos, inm\u00f3viles y son ellas las que corren bajo nosotros.  <\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.airliners.net\/photo\/Edmonton-Flying-Club\/Cessna-172N-Skyhawk\/0962165\/L\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\/gaceta\/wp-101\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/tierra0.jpg?w=1140\"><\/a> <figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cae la noche y los instrumentos nos gu\u00edan con seguridad a trav\u00e9s de ella. Podremos disfrutar de un paisaje y una tranquilidad sin igual, acaso suspendidas por la intromisi\u00f3n casual de alguna comunicaci\u00f3n radial en la frecuencia de nuestra radio (foto Niels Koehncke).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pronto el sol se va y me deja a oscuras. Mi \u00fanica luz es ahora el brillo rojizo de los instrumentos y la p\u00e1lida luz de las estrellas. Me acerco a mi destino as\u00ed que reduzco la potencia y pico entre las nubes. Otra vez la nada gris. Cuando emerjo de ese mundo extra\u00f1o me encuentro volando sobre estrellas. Tierra y cielo se confunden. Es la ciudad de Naples que me da la bienvenida. Pronto un cuadrado de luces recorta el aeropuerto y me zambullo en la oscuridad. A pocos metros del piso mi faro de aterrizaje ilumina la pista.  <\/p>\n<p>Ahora ruedo entre filas de aviones silenciosos. Detengo el motor y su rugido se apaga lentamente. Salgo del avi\u00f3n y lo recorro con las manos. Huele a tierra mojada, a viento y a sue\u00f1os dorados. Miro a m\u00ed alrededor pero estoy solo en el aeropuerto. S\u00f3lo luces azules y sombras inm\u00f3viles. Acaricio sus alas por \u00faltima vez y despacio, avergonzadamente, beso la trompa de mi Pegaso. Me voy, yo tambi\u00e9n, a dormir.
