<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Si bien todos pens\u00e1bamos que el a\u00f1o llegaba a su fin y est\u00e1bamos en condiciones de recapitular los altos y bajos de los \u00faltimos 12 meses calendarios, el 30 de diciembre de 2017 nos regal\u00f3 una interesante y muy inesperada sorpresa.<\/p>\n<p>Fuera de cualquier pron\u00f3stico, el <strong>de Havilland Canada DHC-7 <\/strong>del <strong>British Antarctic Survey<\/strong> (BAS) hizo una breve y poco com\u00fan visita al principal aeropuerto de la capital chilena y brind\u00f3 una oportunidad excepcional de retratar en c\u00e1mara esta <em>\u00abrara avis\u00bb<\/em> que declara domicilio en Gran Breta\u00f1a pero ha pasado la mayor parte de sus casi 30 a\u00f1os de servicio operando entre las Islas Malvinas, la Ant\u00e1rtida y el extremo sur de Chile.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan <strong>Rod Arnold<\/strong>, jefe de la unidad a\u00e9rea del BAS, la m\u00e1quina visit\u00f3 Santiago para entregar <em>\u00abequipos cient\u00edficos que se han utilizado en la Ant\u00e1rtida para la investigaci\u00f3n de la ciencia atmosf\u00e9rica [y] que deb\u00edan ser devueltos r\u00e1pidamente al Reino Unido para otro proyecto [que los emplear\u00e1] a partir de febrero\u00bb<\/em>, aprovechando adem\u00e1s a recoger <em>\u00abuna ayuda [a la] navegaci\u00f3n requerida para la pista [de] Rothera que se instalar\u00e1 este verano\u00bb<\/em>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>De London City a Rothera<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Registrado en las Islas Malvinas con la matr\u00edcula\u00a0<strong>VP-FBQ<\/strong>, este DHC-7 difiere de los 112 ejemplares restantes del modelo ya que fue modificado profusamente para adaptarlo a su misi\u00f3n como aeronave de apoyo para las investigaciones cient\u00edficas que el BAS realiza en el Continente Blanco.<\/p>\n<p>La configuraci\u00f3n inicial que emple\u00f3 con la malograda aerol\u00ednea commuter London City Airways (1988-1990), con capacidad para 50 pasajeros, se modific\u00f3 para s\u00f3lo 12\/16 asientos de pasajeros y el resto del fuselaje fue ocupado por tanques de combustible de largo alcance, sistema de descarga de combustible de emergencia, puerta y piso de carga cambios incorporados a principios de la d\u00e9cada de 1990, el \u00abFox Bravo Quebec\u00bb comenz\u00f3 a operar en la Ant\u00e1rtida en 1994, trasladando cient\u00edficos y carga (repuestos, combustible y alimentos) hacia las bases ant\u00e1rticas brit\u00e1nicas de <strong>Rothera<\/strong> y <strong>Sky-Blu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Temporada 2017\/2018<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>La m\u00e1quina inici\u00f3 su vig\u00e9simo tercera temporada ant\u00e1rtica en el mes de octubre de 2017 traslad\u00e1ndose desde la metr\u00f3poli brit\u00e1nica hasta Chile, ingresando al pa\u00eds el lunes 16 de octubre por Arica (I Regi\u00f3n) y alcanzando Punta Arenas (XIII Regi\u00f3n) tras efectuar una escala \u00fanica en Puerto Montt (X Regi\u00f3n) el martes 17.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan Arnold, <em>\u00abla temporada ant\u00e1rtica 2017-2018 (actualmente en pleno desarrollo) es una actividad muy ocupada para las operaciones a\u00e9reas: La mayor\u00eda de los vuelos entre Punta Arenas y el hub ant\u00e1rtico del Reino Unido en Rothera esta temporada son vuelos de pasajeros en apoyo de la [investigaci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica] brit\u00e1nica e internacional que se lleva a cabo en la Ant\u00e1rtida\u00bb<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Estudiando los movimientos que el \u00abFox Bravo Quebec\u00bb registra en sistemas de rastreo vuelo de acceso p\u00fablico, comprobamos que esta temporada tambi\u00e9n oper\u00f3 en las Islas Malvinas, llegando hasta el complejo militar de Mount Pleasant al menos dos veces (el lunes 6 de noviembre y el domingo 3 de diciembre de 2017).<\/p>\n<p>Para la
