Aviso aparecido en la <i>Revista Nacional de Aeron\u00e1utica<\/i> de Marzo de 1951<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial se fabricaron, seg\u00fan las fuentes, entre 13.000 y 16.000 aviones de transporte Douglas C-47 y C-54. La mayor parte de ellos fueron luego convertidos en aviones civiles (DC-3 y DC-4), y fueron la base de las flotas de casi todas las empresas aerocomerciales que actuaron en la inmediata postguerra.<\/p>\n<p>Esos aviones fueron pensados como m\u00e1quinas civiles, que se modificaron levemente para ser transportes militares, por lo que su reconversi\u00f3n a equipos civiles fue sencilla. B\u00e1sicamente se modificaron las puertas y el piso de la cabina, agreg\u00e1ndose los asientos que no ten\u00edan los cargueros. En el caso del DC-3, la m\u00e1quina tuvo una exitosa carrera en las aerol\u00edneas norteamericanas previa al conflicto, pero el DC-4, que naci\u00f3 en 1942, pr\u00e1cticamente no fue fabricado para el mercado civil, y casi todos fueron conversiones.<\/p>\n<p>Los excedentes de guerra se vendieron muy baratos, lo que explica el entusiasmo de los operadores por estas m\u00e1quinas, que adem\u00e1s eran rendidoras, ten\u00edan pocos problemas mec\u00e1nicos y \u2014un detalle fundamental\u2014 Douglas continu\u00f3 entregando repuestos y dando servicio para garantizar la operaci\u00f3n, lo que result\u00f3 un excelente negocio para todos.<\/p>\n<p>Al mismo tiempo Douglas fracas\u00f3 con las dos propuestas que hizo para reemplazar el DC-3 con un avi\u00f3n nuevo, ya que el DC-5 (de 1939) y el Super DC-3 (de 1949, ver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\/gaceta\/wp-101\/?p=9520\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Las equivocaciones de Douglas<\/a>) fracasaron. Tampoco tuvo \u00e9xito con la propuesta de un avi\u00f3n m\u00e1s grande, que fue el DC-4E de 1938.<\/p>\n<p>Objetivamente, los excedentes de guerra y su servicio salvaron a la empresa en los a\u00f1os de la inmediata postguerra, un momento dificil\u00edsimo para todos los fabricantes, que vieron desaparecer sus pedidos militares.<\/p>\n<p>La gran propuesta posterior a 1945 del fabricante de Long Beach fue el DC-6, que era una versi\u00f3n agrandada y presurizada del DC-4, que vol\u00f3 por primera vez en 1946 y tuvo muy buena acogida por parte de los operadores, pero con cifras de producci\u00f3n que no se acercaron a las de la \u00e9poca del conflicto.
