La noche muy oscura, con meteorolog\u00eda complicada y engelamiento a FL 150 (foto: Javier Caro Mateo).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>D\u00edas atr\u00e1s regresando de Cuba, la noche estaba realmente oscura con meteo complicada y engelamiento a sorprendentes 15.000 ft (feet), cuando normalmente empieza a haber engelamiento por encima de 18.000 ft. Centro Habana nos repiti\u00f3 al menos tres veces que hab\u00eda reporte de hielo a esa alturas, quiz\u00e1s no quieran que se repita el accidente de Aerocaribbean. Como dije la noche parec\u00eda la boca de un lobo, negra, pero con el aliciente de que hab\u00eda varias tormentas el\u00e9ctricas en la zona. Y a 15000 ft que \u00edbamos, es la altura ideal para comerse todo lo que haya.<\/p>\n<p>Los rayos iluminaban el horizonte y de vez en cuando la cabina, donde ten\u00edamos s\u00f3lo las luces imprescindibles para poder ver el exterior con mayor claridad. El vuelo era con cero turbulencias, siempre y cuando uno no se metiera en ning\u00fan tipo de nubes. De vez en cuando ten\u00edamos un ligero CAT (Clear Air Turbulence, o turbulencia de aire claro) pero nada destacable. El radar, gran amigo del piloto en estas situaciones, nos dec\u00eda por d\u00f3nde ten\u00edamos que ir y por d\u00f3nde no. Yo era el PNF (Pilot non flying) as\u00ed que asist\u00eda al capit\u00e1n en todo lo que necesitaba.<\/p>\n<p>Pensamos desviarnos al norte de la ruta pero \u00edbamos a estar demasiado cerca del FIR de Miami y a los gringos no les gusta que se metan en su espacio a\u00e9reo sin permiso. No era 100% necesario pero era una opci\u00f3n. Otra posibilidad era desviarnos al sur, pero despu\u00e9s del desv\u00edo \u00edbamos a estar demasiado cerca de la capital de Haiti, Puerto Pr\u00edncipe, y por experiencia sabemos que pr\u00e1cticamente siempre si la zona del caribe est\u00e1 mal, Puerto Pr\u00edncipe peor. La raz\u00f3n es que es un pa\u00eds deforestado casi al completo, y con monta\u00f1as de relativa gran altitud. Si juntas aire caliente, humedad y corrientes ascendentes tienes el c\u00f3ctel perfecto para unos c\u00famulos donde Zeus, Dios del rayo, se desenvuelve excelentemente bien.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 644px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\/gaceta\/wp-101\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/tormenta2.jpg?resize=644%2C481\" alt=\"\" width=\"644\" height=\"481\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">El radar trabajando en el rango de 25 millas muestra el hueco por donde pasar\u00eda el avi\u00f3n para evitar la tormenta (foto: Javier Caro Mateo).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>La \u00fanica opci\u00f3n viable era un peque\u00f1o hueco que, en el rango de 100 millas de radar, nos daba una idea que podr\u00eda ser bueno. Pero claro, a ese alcance el hueco era m\u00ednimo o as\u00ed se representaba. A medida que \u00edbamos acerc\u00e1ndonos pon\u00edamos el alcance del radar m\u00e1s y m\u00e1s peque\u00f1o, y con eso el hueco se hac\u00eda m\u00e1s y m\u00e1s grande. Era un verdadero alivio ver eso. Cuando llegamos a poner el alcance a 25 millas el hueco, aunque no era ideal ya nos indicaba que pod\u00edamos pasar por \u00e9l.<\/p>\n<p>Cuando est\u00e1bamos justo en medio de los dos c\u00famulos los rayos, o m\u00e1s bien el resplandor de ellos, eran impresionante. Iluminaban la cabina como en una discoteca. Por suerte nunca hubo ning\u00fan tipo de peligro ni situaci\u00f3n tensa y mientras est\u00e1bamos entre los c\u00famulos no hubo nada de turbulencia. El resto del vuelo fue m\u00e1s tranquilo a\u00fan, y aterrizamos en Punta Cana dos horas y veinte minutos despu\u00e9s de despegar de Holgu\u00edn. Esas horas las anot\u00e9 en el logbook como cualquier otro vuelo, pero sin duda no lo fue.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Un marco espectacular acompa\u00f1ado de una clima cambiante y a veces complicado.
