Por lo general funcionan dentro de ciertos l\u00edmites, pero no siempre logran consolidarse como productos nuevos.<\/p>\n<p>En t\u00e9rminos generales es relativamente sencillo alargar o acortar un dise\u00f1o, potenciarlo, aumentar o disminuir su carga m\u00e1xima y su alcance o hacerle mejoras aerodin\u00e1micas. Mucho m\u00e1s complejo es convertir un avi\u00f3n de h\u00e9lices en jet, o cambiar la cantidad de motores, alternativas que casi no registran \u00e9xitos o, siquiera, productos aceptables.<\/p>\n<p><b>El H\u00e9rcules bimotor<\/b><\/p>\n<p>El Lockheed Hercules vol\u00f3 por primera vez en 1954 y, por m\u00e9rito propio, se convirti\u00f3 en el s\u00edmbolo de los transportes militares de la postguerra, al punto de que uno de los puntos b\u00e1sicos del dise\u00f1o de muchos pertrechos es que se puedan transportar, armados o desarmados, en un avi\u00f3n de este tipo, cuya bodega se convirti\u00f3 en un standard de la industria.<\/p>\n<p>Como todos, tuvo varias versiones especializadas para tareas muy diversas, y fue un \u00e9xito de ventas mundial, lo que dio a su fabricante una buena base de clientes para pensar en nuevas alternativas, aunque la verdad es que todo el potencial de la m\u00e1quina se fue construyendo a partir de requerimientos de las fuerzas armadas norteamericanas, lo que daba como resultado aviones caros.<\/p>\n<p>As\u00ed las cosas, sobre fines de los a\u00f1os setenta, Lockheed propuso, por su cuenta, una nueva versi\u00f3n del avi\u00f3n, con el mismo fuselaje y su volumen de carga, pero propulsado por dos motores en vez de cuatro, lo que lo hac\u00eda m\u00e1s liviano y econ\u00f3mico, aunque con algunas limitaciones.<\/p>\n<p>Nunca hubo un requerimiento norteamericano por un avi\u00f3n de estas caracter\u00edsticas, por lo que la apuesta era interesar a los pa\u00edses que ya estaban utilizando la versi\u00f3n cuatrimotor, pero que ten\u00edan necesidades m\u00e1s modestas que los del avi\u00f3n \u201ccompleto\u201d, y sobre ellos se concentr\u00f3 el esfuerzo comercial.<\/p>\n<p>Argentina era uno de ellos, y como parte de la acci\u00f3n promocional se public\u00f3 en <i>La Naci\u00f3n<\/i> del 14 de marzo de 1980 el aviso de casi media p\u00e1gina que ilustra esta nota.<\/p>\n<p>Era una propuesta interesante, pero el mercado prefiri\u00f3 seguir usando aviones medianos, nacidos como tales, antes que un avi\u00f3n grande achicado.
