Sin embargo, de vez en cuando, el misterioso y evasivo <strong>\u00abAlfa Cinco Uno Siete\u00bb<\/strong> insist\u00eda en re-aparecer en nuestro \u00abradar de investigaci\u00f3n\u00bb, volviendo a encender y fortalecer nuestro inter\u00e9s por tratar de llegar al que generalmente denominamos \u00abel sexto y m\u00e1s esquivo Pucar\u00e1 brit\u00e1nico\u201d\u2026<\/p>\n<p>La historia de este escurridizo ejemplar se remonta a 1977, cuando comenz\u00f3 a ser construido en el AMC (\u00c1rea de Material C\u00f3rdoba), el omnipresente fabricante de aviones mejor conocido por su designaci\u00f3n hist\u00f3rica, FMA (F\u00e1brica Militar de Aviones). Tras recibir en f\u00e1brica el n\u00famero de serie 14, inicialmente estuvo destinado a lo que se convirti\u00f3 en la venta frustrada de tres aviones IA-58A a la Fuerza A\u00e9rea de Mauritania.<\/p>\n<p>Una vez que el negocio africano fracas\u00f3 por falta de fondos del comprador y el avi\u00f3n vol\u00f3 por primera vez a principios de 1978, la Fuerza A\u00e9rea Argentina (FAA) lo puso en servicio con el primer escuadr\u00f3n de aviones Pucar\u00e1, activado en la base a\u00e9rea Reconquista en el norte de la provincia de Santa F\u00e9 tres a\u00f1os antes. Se le asign\u00f3 la <strong>matr\u00edcula A-517<\/strong> (segundo uso) y fue ingresado al servicio en septiembre de 1978, justo a tiempo para ser desplegado al sur a General Roca (Provincia de R\u00edo Negro) por el conflicto entre Chile y Argentina por una disputa territorial del Canal Beagle en diciembre ese a\u00f1o..<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Cinco d\u00edas en Malvinas\u2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Sin embargo, la parte m\u00e1s relevante de su breve carrera operativa tendr\u00eda lugar en abril de 1982, cuando fue seleccionado para su despliegue a Malvinas. Sin embargo, el h\u00famedo e irregular suelo malvinense se interpuso en el camino, la rueda de la nariz se atasc\u00f3 en un pozo y el avi\u00f3n se derrumb\u00f3 mientras Gim\u00e9nez aceleraba para despegar.<\/p>\n<p>Despu\u00e9s que el bombardeo brit\u00e1nico se concretara minutos despu\u00e9s del accidente (matando a ocho e hiriendo a nueve aviadores argentinos y destruyendo al Pucar\u00e1 A-527, incluidos entre ellos el teniente Gim\u00e9nez), el A-517 fue inspeccionado por sus mec\u00e1nicos y se determin\u00f3 que no podr\u00eda ser repuesto localmente a condici\u00f3n de vuelo por el nivel de da\u00f1o sufrido. A\u00fan a pesar de ello, se decidi\u00f3 reciclarlo como se\u00f1uelo para futuros ataques a\u00e9reos brit\u00e1nicos. El tren delantero se volvi\u00f3 a montar improvisadamente para mover el avi\u00f3n fuera de la pista y colocarlo en una posici\u00f3n donde propondr\u00eda un objetivo atractivo para los Harriers brit\u00e1nicos.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>El largo y sinuoso camino a Oxfordshire<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Cuatro semanas despu\u00e9s de su fat\u00eddico incidente en la base a\u00e9rea C\u00f3ndor, el avi\u00f3n cay\u00f3 en manos brit\u00e1nicas cuando la guarnici\u00f3n a\u00e9rea y militar de Prado del Ganso rindi\u00f3 sus armas al Segundo Batall\u00f3n del Regimiento Paracaidista del Royal Army el 28 de mayo. Antes que el fuselaje se convirtiera en un completo mont\u00f3n de escombros, el Ministerio de Defensa brit\u00e1nico decidi\u00f3 donarlo a la poblaci\u00f3n de Prado del Ganso en octubre de 1984.<\/p>\n<p>Ni lentos ni perezosos y faltos del menor inter\u00e9s en conservar un s\u00edmbolo de la \u00abocupaci\u00f3n argentina\u00bb, los habitantes de la localidad vendieron inmediatamente la aeronave a un \u00abse\u00f1or Harrison\u00bb, de la firma <strong>Grampian Helicopters International Ltd.<\/strong>, quien hizo que los restos se guardaran en dos contenedores de 40 pies y uno de 20 pies y los envi\u00f3 a Puerto Argentino a bordo del buque de carga \u00abMonsunen\u00bb a principios de 1985. As\u00ed embalado, el A-517 habr\u00eda llegado por mar al Reino Unido, junto con un UH-1H Huey ex Ej\u00e9rcito Argentino, antes del cuarto trimestre de 1987.<\/p>\n<p>Curiosamente, Grampian logr\u00f3 que, a\u00fan en sus dudosas condiciones, la aeronave fuera aceptada en el registro de aeronaves civiles brit\u00e1nicas despu\u00e9s de un proceso de registro incre\u00edblemente r\u00e1pido. Sin embargo, el avi\u00f3n sigui\u00f3 siendo invisible. Algunos rumores indicaban que hab\u00eda sido abandonado o almacenado en diferentes lugares, tales como Jersey Island o Bicester, a 80 km. de Witney. Nuestras \u00faltimas esperanzas de llegar a \u00e9l se desvanecieron cuando la BCAA cancel\u00f3 su matr\u00edcula civil en noviembre de 1995.<\/p>\n<p>Pero ahora sabemos que el avi\u00f3n ha permanecido almacenado en dos contenedores de 40 pies durante poco m\u00e1s de 30 a\u00f1os y que regres\u00f3 a Am\u00e9rica a mediados de la d\u00e9cada de 1990. Su propietario desde 1989 es <strong>Rodney Butterfield<\/strong>, un ingeniero de dise\u00f1o automotriz de Rhodesia, que consolid\u00f3 su adquisici\u00f3n en los dos contenedores de 40 pies y los conserv\u00f3 en la firma de restauraci\u00f3n de autos de carreras y deportivos que pose\u00eda en Witney (Oxfordshire). Pero, despu\u00e9s de vender ese negocio para un proyecto inmobiliario en 1990, Butterfield se mud\u00f3 a Carolina del Norte para comenzar otro negocio de restauraci\u00f3n y venta de autom\u00f3viles y llev\u00f3 consigo al A-517\/G-BLRP, sintiendo que <em>\u00abtal vez ser\u00eda m\u00e1s f\u00e1cil y m\u00e1s econ\u00f3mico emprender la restauraci\u00f3n en EE.UU.\u00bb<\/em>, como le dijo a nuestro webmaster en su primer contacto en el a\u00f1o 2008.<\/p>\n<p>En sus intercambios con Fernando Puppio, Butterfield dijo que sus planes eran construir un hangar local para albergar el proyecto para <em>\u00abpoder realizar un estudio completo de la condici\u00f3n y evaluar la posibilidad y los costos de la restauraci\u00f3n\u00bb<\/em>. Lamentablemente, las demandas de su negocio de autom\u00f3viles le impidieron <em>\u00abprogresar tan r\u00e1pido como esperaba\u00bb<\/em> y el avi\u00f3n permanece guardado hasta nuestros d\u00edas dentro de sus dos contenedores en las instalaciones del propietario en <strong>Forest City<\/strong>, en el centro de Carolina del Norte.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Encuentro con la historia<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>El avi\u00f3n est\u00e1 parcialmente desmantelado y todav\u00eda est\u00e1 cubierto de protector Cosmolene para contener la corrosi\u00f3n. Pero de todos modos requerir\u00eda al menos entre 5% y 10% de la cifra de arriba para volver a ensamblarlo, idealmente dentro de un edificio donde podr\u00eda exponerse al p\u00fablico, y la corrosi\u00f3n se mantendr\u00eda a raya para siempre.<\/p>\n<p>Durante nuestra inspecci\u00f3n a principios de febrero de 2020, tuvimos oportunidad de conversar largo y tendido con Rodney Butterfield.
