Adem\u00e1s, muchos eran antiecon\u00f3micos para las rutas que ten\u00edan que volar.<\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, a la empresa no le gustaba competir. Durante a\u00f1os hab\u00eda sido defensora ac\u00e9rrima de las tarifas fijadas en las conferencias de tr\u00e1fico de IATA, donde se establec\u00edan condiciones que todos aceptaban, pero eso, a partir de la desregulaci\u00f3n de 1978 hab\u00eda sido superado, y ahora todas las empresas buscaban seducir a los pasajeros con tarifas m\u00e1s bajas, un juego en el que la aerol\u00ednea local se negaba a entrar.<\/p>\n<p>Alfons\u00edn design\u00f3 presidente de Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas a Horacio Domingorena, un viejo radical que no sab\u00eda nada de aviaci\u00f3n comercial, y que tambi\u00e9n viv\u00eda en un mundo maravilloso, ya que sostuvo que se resist\u00eda a decir que la Argentina estaba en cesaci\u00f3n de pagos.<\/p>\n<p>Pero, despu\u00e9s de tomar contacto con los libros, debi\u00f3 anunciar que por \u201cimprudencia en el manejo de fondos\u201d la empresa ten\u00eda deudas por 1.000 millones de d\u00f3lares, cifra que no alcanzaba a su patrimonio, por lo que estaba \u2014en teor\u00eda\u2014 en situaci\u00f3n de quiebra. En ese momento, bullente de desregulaci\u00f3n, cualquier pasaje comprado en el exterior hacia la Argentina era mucho m\u00e1s barato que el equivalente desde este pa\u00eds al exterior, lo que generaba grandes protestas de los pasajeros. Sin comentarios.<\/p>\n<p>El 13 de agosto un periodista le pregunt\u00f3 a Domingorena por qu\u00e9 las tarifas desde Buenos Aires al exterior eran alrededor de un 50% m\u00e1s caras que desde Montevideo, a lo que respondi\u00f3 que eso era \u201cabsolutamente cierto\u201d, pero que \u201cno le hab\u00edan podido encontrar ninguna soluci\u00f3n\u201d porque estaban trabajando en el l\u00edmite de la capacidad presupuestaria y era dif\u00edcil reducir tarifas.<\/p>\n<p>Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas ten\u00eda entonces deudas importantes, el gobierno aspiraba a que la empresa se hiciera cargo de las mismas, y eso era imposible con el flujo de caja de la empresa.<\/p>\n<p>Y as\u00ed fue que, de la noche a la ma\u00f1ana y sin mediar ninguna explicaci\u00f3n coherente, la empresa estatal anunci\u00f3 el 9 de octubre de 1985 que hab\u00eda decidido pagar a los agentes de viaje una comisi\u00f3n suplementaria del 40% sobre todos los pasajes internacionales a pa\u00edses no lim\u00edtrofes, lo que en la pr\u00e1ctica significaba que sus tarifas se hab\u00edan reducido en esa proporci\u00f3n. Para atemperar el impacto se dijo que era una medida excepcional y temporaria que se tomaba para \u201cconseguir, a la mayor brevedad posible, el saneamiento de un mercado que ven\u00eda evidenciando fuertes distorsiones\u201d. La necesidad tiene cara de hereje.<\/p>\n<p>Las reacciones fueron las previsibles. Los pasajeros se amontonaron en las agencias, algunos pol\u00edticos dijeron que la empresa estatal subvencionaba la salida de viajeros al exterior en un momento de dificultades de la balanza de pagos, y los competidores que hasta el d\u00eda anterior vend\u00edan pasajes baratos por debajo de la mesa los comenzaron a vender a la vista de todos, aunque en general hicieron declaraciones condenando la actitud de Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas.<\/p>\n<p>La DNTAC toler\u00f3 la medida. Reci\u00e9n el 13 de octubre anunci\u00f3 que \u201cel gobierno implementar\u00eda medidas para retomar el control de las tarifas a\u00e9reas internacionales\u201d, agregando que se reestablecer\u00eda un equilibrio que favorecer\u00eda a todos.<\/p>\n<p>Finalmente, el 17 de octubre, la Secretar\u00eda de Transporte resolvi\u00f3 autorizar descuentos del 25% en todas las bandas de tarifas IATA, incluyendo punto a punto y excursiones, salvo para los pa\u00edses lim\u00edtrofes.<\/p>\n<p>Domingorena dijo que ya hab\u00eda recaudado el dinero que necesitaba para cumplir con la deuda.
