Es por eso que mirando hacia atr\u00e1s, es f\u00e1cil distinguir, en el tiempo, una ceremonia en particular que marc\u00f3 un antes y un despu\u00e9s, debido no solo a la cantidad y variedad de aviones que alzaron el vuelo, sino que tambi\u00e9n por el momento hist\u00f3rico que se vio reflejado tanto en tierra como en aquellas formaciones de aparatos que surcaron los cielos, aquel viernes 3 de noviembre de 2006, con motivo del cambio de mando de la Fuerza A\u00e9rea de Chile. Ese d\u00eda llegaba a su fin el mandato del General del Aire, Osvaldo Sarabia, a quien le suceder\u00eda en el mando el General del Aire, Ricardo Ortega Perrier. Exist\u00eda gran expectaci\u00f3n acerca de c\u00f3mo ser\u00eda esta presentaci\u00f3n debido a diversos factores. Uno de ellos era que, en el mes de septiembre de ese a\u00f1o, con motivo de la parada militar, por las glorias del ej\u00e9rcito, la FACH present\u00f3 solamente 13 aeronaves de ala fija y 5 helic\u00f3pteros. Por otra parte, el proceso de incorporaci\u00f3n de los aviones F-16 en la FACH, pon\u00eda una nota de incertidumbre con respecto a si se presentar\u00edan o no los aviones a los que estaba sustituyendo, como los Mirage Pantera, Mirage Elkan y el A-37 Dragonfly, y en qu\u00e9 cantidades. Dicho proceso de compra dio como fruto la selecci\u00f3n del modelo Lockheed Martin F-16, el cual se transformar\u00eda en la columna vertebral de la aviaci\u00f3n de combate chilena. Fueron adquiridos al fabricante Lockheed Martin, 10 aparatos nuevos, modelos C y D; y a finales de 2005, a la Fuerza A\u00e9rea de Holanda, 36 F-16 modelos A y B, actualizados al est\u00e1ndar MLU. Los F-16 C y D comenzaron a llegar en enero de 2006 y los primeros 6 F-16 MLU llegaron en vuelo a Antofagasta, en agosto del mismo a\u00f1o. Los primeros en despegar ser\u00edan 7 F-16C\/D, del Grupo 3, provenientes desde Iquique, seguidos por los 6 F-16 A\/B, que hab\u00edan llegado al pa\u00eds desde Holanda, hasta esa fecha. Estos \u00faltimos proven\u00edan desde Antofagasta, donde el Grupo 8 de la FACH envi\u00f3 tambi\u00e9n 5 Mirage Elkan, a los cuales estar\u00edan destinados a reemplazar. As\u00ed como los F-16 realizaron una formaci\u00f3n mixta, la familia Mirage tambi\u00e9n, ya que detr\u00e1s de los Elkan, ven\u00edan 6 Mirage Pantera provenientes del Grupo 4, ubicado en Punta Arenas. Pero esto no era todo, ya que cerraban la secci\u00f3n de aviaci\u00f3n de combate 6 Northrop F-5 E\/F de grupo 7, provenientes de Antofagasta y 9 Cessna A-37 Dragonfly del Grupo 12, provenientes de Punta Arenas. Es as\u00ed que, entre los aviones que llegaban al final de su servicio operativo y los que entraban, la cuenta ya iba en 39 aeronaves de combate. Cuando la apreciaci\u00f3n general de los observadores de \u00e1mbito defensa, preve\u00edan la operaci\u00f3n de la familia Mirage de al menos un par de a\u00f1os m\u00e1s, debido al excelente estado de alistamiento operativo que se ve\u00eda en las unidades que los operaban, r\u00e1pidamente la FACH, por un tema de racionalizaci\u00f3n de costos, anunci\u00f3 la desactivaci\u00f3n de los Mirage Elkan, en diciembre de 2006. Una confirmaci\u00f3n del estado de las cosas se produjo para el desfile del aniversario de la FACH en el mes de marzo de 2007, ya que no fueron desplegados ni los A-37 Dragonfly, ni los Mirage Pantera. La siguiente vez que los Mirage Pantera serian desplegados en Santiago fue en el mes de septiembre, y ser\u00eda para ellos la \u00faltima parada militar en la que participar\u00edan, ya que, en diciembre de 2007, en la ciudad de Punta Arenas, se llev\u00f3 a cabo la desactivaci\u00f3n de los \u00faltimos Mirages operados por Chile. La aviaci\u00f3n de transporte y utilitaria se present\u00f3 en pleno, representados por la totalidad de C-130 H\u00e9rcules (3), que pose\u00eda la FACH a la fecha, as\u00ed como tambi\u00e9n la totalidad de Cessna Citation CJ-1 (4) del Grupo 5, basado en Puerto Montt, adem\u00e1s de CASA C-212 (3), y nada menos que 9 DHC-6 Twin Otter, provenientes de las diferentes brigadas a\u00e9reas, incluidos ejemplares con colores ant\u00e1rticos del Grupo N\u00ba6, basado en Punta Arenas. El otro multiplicador de fuerza, aparte de los aviones de transporte, enlace, ambulancia y entrenadores de instrumentos, como los mencionados anteriormente, fue el imponente avi\u00f3n AEW Boeing EB-707 Condor, con su caracter\u00edstica figura. El rostro de la FACH no volver\u00eda a ser igual, ya que el proceso de incorporaci\u00f3n del material F-16, no s\u00f3lo caus\u00f3 un salto cualitativo importante en las diferentes \u00e1reas institucionales, sino que tambi\u00e9n caus\u00f3 desactivaciones de material (Familia Mirage y Cessna A-37), traslado de material (F-5E\/F Tigre III de Antofagasta a Punta Arenas), activaci\u00f3n de unidades (Grupo N\u00ba3) y desactivaci\u00f3n de unidades (Grupo N\u00ba 4).
