\u201cShangri-La\u201d para operar en el Mar Mediterr\u00e1neo y, posteriormente ese mismo a\u00f1o, particip\u00f3 en el bloqueo a Cuba durante la llamada <strong>\u201ccrisis de los misiles cubanos\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>El resto de su carrera en la USN estuvo dedicada principalmente a realizar despliegues en el Mar Mediterr\u00e1neo u operar con unidades terrestres de los Estados Unidos continentales, sin rastros conocidos de haber participado en la guerra de Vietnam.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47543\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47543\" style=\"width: argentina<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Retirado a la Base de la Fuerza A\u00e9rea Davis Monthan (Arizona) el 19\/03\/1971, permaneci\u00f3 preservado hasta que la FAA lo compr\u00f3 \u00abas is\u00bb en diciembre de 1974, con un total de 3.824 horas de vuelo.<\/p>\n<p>El futuro \u201cCharlie 321\u201d fue despojado de sistemas sensibles de EE.UU. en las instalaciones de <strong>Lockheed Aircraft Services<\/strong> en Ontario (California) y enviado a la Argentina, donde fue cuidadosamente devuelto a condiciones operativas por t\u00e9cnicos del <strong>\u00c1rea Material de R\u00edo Cuarto<\/strong> (ARMACUAR), volando por primera vez el 29\/03\/1978.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47560\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47560\" style=\"width: 1024px\" los A-4C argentinos fueron equipados con miras de tiro aire-aire y aire-tierra Marconi brit\u00e1nicas, avi\u00f3nica ADF\/VOR\/ILS, sistemas de navegaci\u00f3n OMEGA y misiles aire-aire IAI Shafrir de primera generaci\u00f3n y perdieron muchas de las mejoras propias de su configuraci\u00f3n original (sistemas Low Altitude Bombing System y de navegaci\u00f3n AN\/ASN-19, radar APG-53, misiles aire-aire Sidewinder, receptor de alerta radar y dispensadores de <em>chaff<\/em>, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Librada al servicio activo el 19\/05\/1978, la aeronave se incorpor\u00f3 a la flota de la <strong>IV Brigada A\u00e9rea<\/strong> (IV Br A\u00e9) en El Plumerillo (Mendoza), participando en varios despliegues de entrenamiento y tambi\u00e9n fue utilizada para las primeras pruebas con misiles Shafrir I de Israel Aircraft Industries en la Estaci\u00f3n A\u00e9rea Naval Comandante Espora, cerca de Bah\u00eda Blanca (Buenos Aires), en octubre de 1978.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47608\" \/>\n<p>Nuestro ejemplar estuvo presente en la crisis del Canal de Beagle llegando el 13\/12\/1978 a Puerto San Juli\u00e1n (Santa Cruz), y despleg\u00f3 desde los primeros momentos del conflicto del Atl\u00e1ntico Sur al mismo lugar en abril de 1982, completando siete salidas de combate durante la Guerra de Malvinas.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>\u00a1Hundan el portaaviones!<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Su misi\u00f3n m\u00e1s destacada tuvo lugar el 30\/05\/1982, integrando la escuadrilla \u201cZonda\u201d con otros tres A-4C, volando junto a dos Super Etendards de la Armada Argentina y repostando combustible desde dos aviones cisterna KC-130H H\u00e9rcules, con la intenci\u00f3n de atacar al portaaviones brit\u00e1nico HMS \u201cInvincible\u201d, que la inteligencia electr\u00f3nica argentina ubicaba unos 204 km. al este de la isla Soledad.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47566\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47566\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption \/>\n<p>La formaci\u00f3n de ataque despeg\u00f3 desde la Base Aeronaval de R\u00edo Grande (Tierra del Fuego) y, guiada por sus sistemas de navegaci\u00f3n OMEGA, se acerc\u00f3 a la flota brit\u00e1nica desde el sureste, lanzando un misil antibuque AM-39 Exocet y varias bombas de 250 kg (500 lbs). en su objetivo previsto en un atrevido ataque que, seg\u00fan fuentes brit\u00e1nicas, no golpe\u00f3 al portaaviones sino a la fragata HMS \u00abAvenger\u00bb.<\/p>\n<p>Si bien dos de los Skyhawks fueron derribados por misiles antia\u00e9reos brit\u00e1nicos, el C-321, pilotado por el primer teniente <strong>Ernesto Ureta<\/strong>, y su nave gemela C-318 evitaron ser derribados realizando violentas maniobras evasivas y escaparon de regreso a R\u00edo Grande, donde ambos aterrizaron sanos y salvos luego de 03:40 horas de vuelo.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_47569\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-47569\" style=\"width: 1024px\" class=\"wp-caption 20\/12\/1983, cuando todos los A-4 Skyhawk sobrevivientes en la FAA se agruparon en Villa Reynolds (San Luis) y continuaron volando con la V Br A\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>En 1983, mediante un convenio con la empresa francesa MATRA, se realizaron pruebas de homologaci\u00f3n de armamento en el marco de la Operaci\u00f3n \u201cSkyhawk-Matra-Magic\u201d, lanzando con \u00e9xito un R550 Magic II \u201ctodo espectro\u201d en Mar del Plata (el Magic 2 entr\u00f3 en servicio en Francia en 1985) y bombas Matra-Durandal BLG-66 Belouga2 sobre una plataforma de cemento en Mendoza.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<figure
