En la imagen un ATR 72 de la aerol\u00ednea rumana Tarom en Bucarest (foto: Fernando Puppio).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Antecedentes<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Si ha volado en una ruta de cercan\u00edas a un aeropuerto m\u00e1s peque\u00f1o, existe la posibilidad de que haya volado a bordo de un avi\u00f3n turboh\u00e9lice. Este tipo de avi\u00f3n tiene h\u00e9lices en lugar de motores a reacci\u00f3n (espec\u00edficamente motores turboventiladores) y funciona un poco m\u00e1s lento, pero est\u00e1 presurizado y a\u00fan puede realizar un viaje similar al de un avi\u00f3n a reacci\u00f3n. Los turboh\u00e9lices tienen algunas ventajas, como poder aterrizar en aeropuertos m\u00e1s peque\u00f1os y ser m\u00e1s baratos de operar.<\/p>\n<p>El primer avi\u00f3n que compararemos es el <strong>ATR-72<\/strong>, llamado as\u00ed por la cantidad de pasajeros que transporta y desarrollado en Francia e Italia por ATR en 1984. Fue construido por una variedad de fabricantes a lo largo de su vida (De Havilland Canada en 1984, Boeing en 1988, Bombardier en 1992 y Longview Aviation Capital desde 2019).<\/p>\n<p>Dado que ambos tipos de aviones son de uso extensivo en todo el mundo y se dise\u00f1aron aproximadamente al mismo tiempo, la comparaci\u00f3n es adecuada. Hay algunos tipos de ATR-72 m\u00e1s antiguos, pero usaremos el m\u00e1s moderno disponible (el -600) para este estudio. Puede transportar m\u00e1s pasajeros que el ATR 72 (pero solo unos pocos m\u00e1s) a mayor distancia. Vale la pena destacar que la mayor\u00eda de las aerol\u00edneas no emplear\u00e1n los aviones hasta el m\u00e1ximo alcance, sino m\u00e1s bien, en rutas cortas.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Consumo y performance<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Aqu\u00ed es donde las cosas se ponen un poco m\u00e1s complejas. Seg\u00fan el sitio web de ATR, el ATR-72 es un 39 % m\u00e1s eficiente en el consumo de combustible a m\u00e1s de 300 NM. Podr\u00edamos concluir que el ATR-72 es mucho m\u00e1s eficiente en combustible que el Q400, pero el Q400 transporta m\u00e1s pasajeros. Pero no se apresure a descartar el Q400. Las velocidades m\u00e1ximas est\u00e1ndar son las siguientes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>ATR-72-600: 510 km\/h (280 nudos)<\/li>\n<li>Dash 8 Q400: 556\u2013667 km\/h (300\u2013360 nudos). El Q400 tambi\u00e9n vuela a mayor altitud.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Esta velocidad de crucero m\u00e1s r\u00e1pida significa que el avi\u00f3n Q400 llega a su destino m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido (en una hora de vuelo el Q400 cubre una distancia que al ATR-72 le toma una hora y 15 minutos). Vuelos m\u00e1s r\u00e1pidos significan m\u00e1s vuelos por d\u00eda.
