En realidad, un poco menos. Hoy, cualquier empresa que volara con esos coeficientes de ocupaci\u00f3n estar\u00eda en la bancarrota sin remedio. En cualquier lugar del mundo y con cualquier hip\u00f3tesis de operaci\u00f3n comercial.<\/p>\n<p>Este aviso, publicado en la revista argentina <i>Aviaci\u00f3n y Astron\u00e1utica<\/i>, en agosto de 1965, es una de las primeras publicidades del Boeing 737, cuando todav\u00eda no hab\u00eda volado (lo hizo por primera vez en 1967) y pretende colocar al avi\u00f3n como lo que realmente era, una m\u00e1quina de producir dinero, con costos tan bajos que los beneficios empezaban con ese nivel m\u00ednimo de ocupaci\u00f3n. El resto ser\u00eda todo ganancias.<\/p>\n<p>Es cierto que en letra chiquita dice que se trata de los valores promedio de las empresas norteamericanas, y que se trata de costos operativos, pero a\u00fan as\u00ed estamos hablando de valores que hoy ser\u00edan incre\u00edbles y pondr\u00edan a quien los defendiera en el lugar de un charlat\u00e1n de feria.<\/p>\n<p>\u00bfTanto cambiaron las cosas en 48 a\u00f1os? La respuesta es s\u00ed, y no fueron 48 a\u00f1os, fueron s\u00f3lo ocho.<\/p>\n<p>En esa \u00e9poca el mundo pensaba que tener petr\u00f3leo barato era algo normal y natural. Nadie pensaba que pudiera faltar, y menos en que su precio variara mucho de los valores impuestos por las grandes compa\u00f1\u00edas internacionales, a pesar de que la producci\u00f3n estaba, en realidad, concentrada en un peque\u00f1o grupo de pa\u00edses, bastante inestables.<\/p>\n<p>En 1960, por iniciativa de Venezuela, estos pa\u00edses crearon la Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC u OPEP) con el objetivo de defender sus intereses comerciales y pol\u00edticos. Sus principales socios fueron las naciones \u00e1rabes del cercano oriente que, por otra parte, ten\u00edan un conflicto pol\u00edtico y militar con Israel.<\/p>\n<p>En este estado de cosas, en 1973, se produjo la Guerra del Yom Kippur, en la que los \u00e1rabes sufrieron una importante derrota militar. Seguidamente, como represalia, los pa\u00edses productores decidieron, primero, cortar sus exportaciones de crudo y luego aumentar su precio en aproximadamente un trescientos por ciento. El mundo occidental no pudo absorber inmediatamente este golpe, y se desat\u00f3 una crisis sin precedentes.<\/p>\n<p>Repentinamente se tom\u00f3 conciencia de que no hay actividad sin energ\u00eda, y que la mayor parte de la energ\u00eda usada en ese momento ten\u00eda su base en el petr\u00f3leo, que estaba siendo procesado en m\u00e1quinas que, en general, eran ineficientes. En Estados Unidos, uno de los lugares donde m\u00e1s se sinti\u00f3 el embargo, muchas actividades entraron en estado de colapso, y cuando finalmente se volvi\u00f3 al abastecimiento normal, el nuevo precio de los combustibles produjo una gran inflaci\u00f3n a escala mundial, que trajo como consecuencia una brutal recesi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Las aerol\u00edneas recibieron un golpe terrible, porque todos sus costos ahora ten\u00edan otra base, y el optimismo que hab\u00eda rodeado el lanzamiento del Boeing 737 se convirti\u00f3 en zozobra. Por suerte para sus operadores, el avi\u00f3n sigui\u00f3 siendo econ\u00f3micamente viable, y con el tiempo y todo tipo de mejoras incorporadas <i>a posteriori<\/i> se convirti\u00f3 en el jet m\u00e1s exitoso de la historia, pero bien lejos de las previsiones originales.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hoy, cualquier empresa que volara con un coeficiente de ocupaci\u00f3n del 30% o menos, estar\u00eda en la bancarrota sin remedio.
