No fue una ruta exitosa y fue abandonada m\u00e1s o menos al mismo tiempo en que se empez\u00f3 a probar suerte con los servicios a Ocean\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>La primera acci\u00f3n de South African Airways en la Argentina fue inaugurar una agencia en la avenida Santa Fe, en junio de 1970. Era necesario completar un acuerdo bilateral para ponerlo en marcha y, el tr\u00e1mite se demor\u00f3 hasta fines de enero de 1973 (en eso hemos mejorado). En ese momento, el comercio bilateral entre ambos pa\u00edses era peque\u00f1o, pero estaba creciendo de modo sostenido. Los vuelos se inauguraron, por fin, el 2 de\u00a0 abril de 1973.<\/p>\n<p>En ese momento, la flota de largo radio de Aerol\u00edneas estaba formada exclusivamente por Boeing 707, un avi\u00f3n competitivo en sus rutas, que llegaban a Norteam\u00e9rica y Europa. El problema era que no hab\u00eda muchos destinos posibles para nuevos servicios. Se hablaba de Ocean\u00eda, pero el equipo no ten\u00eda el alcance necesario y Sud\u00e1frica apareci\u00f3 como la \u00fanica alternativa posible que pod\u00eda unirse non-stop con Buenos Aires. Fue condenado por las Naciones Unidas en 1962 y a partir de all\u00ed se sucedieron embargos y castigos econ\u00f3micos diversos, de los que no particip\u00f3 nuestro pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>Durante los sucesivos gobiernos militares de Ongan\u00eda, Levingston y Lanusse, las relaciones entre Argentina y Sud\u00e1frica fueron buenas, con visitas de funcionarios y el incontestable hecho de la inauguraci\u00f3n de los vuelos.
