Puede parecer un aviso de \u00e9poca m\u00e1s, pero da para una radiograf\u00eda de la industria en ese momento. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\"><em>Atl\u00e1ntida<\/em> era una revista destinada a la clase media alta y la burgues\u00eda, en una \u00e9poca en que los valores de \u00e9stas eran distintos de los actuales. Compet\u00eda entonces con <em>El Hogar<\/em> (que curiosamente era del Estado), y no puede asimilarse a nada de lo que hay ahora. Quiz\u00e1s la espa\u00f1ola <em>\u00a1Hola!<\/em> sea una mejor referencia. Como dato objetivo dir\u00e9 que en el n\u00famero donde sali\u00f3 este aviso hay una rese\u00f1a sobre el casamiento de la hija del presidente Aramburu y otra sobre el desfile militar del 9 de julio. En s\u00edntesis, era una revista destinada a un p\u00fablico de cierto nivel adquisitivo. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">El transporte a\u00e9reo en ese momento viv\u00eda el apogeo de los motores de pist\u00f3n, pero ya estaba bastante claro que el futuro ser\u00eda de los jets, que empezar\u00edan a operar regularmente en 1958. Era la hora m\u00e1s gloriosa de un servicio glamoroso, cuyas m\u00e1quinas estrella eran los Lockheed Super Constellation y Starliner, y los Douglas DC-6B y DC-7. Tambi\u00e9n era la \u00e9poca de las aerol\u00edneas de bandera oficiales, que operaban comercialmente bajo el ala de una IATA que velaba por los pasajes caros y los servicios uniformes. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Pero hab\u00eda un mercado marginal, que encontraba nichos en los que pod\u00eda usar estructuras baratas y aviones de ocasi\u00f3n. A la cabeza de esto estaban los charteros del Atl\u00e1ntico norte y sir Freddie Laker, pero estos servicios existieron en todo el mundo, y Cinta fue un digno ejemplo. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">La Argentina fue un pa\u00eds hostil a estos desarrollos. Aqu\u00ed las tarifas eran fijas y no hab\u00eda posibilidades de innovar en este aspecto, pero Chile, que no ten\u00eda empresas estatales de larga distancia, tuvo una actitud m\u00e1s abierta a esta posibilidad. En este marco nacieron en el pa\u00eds transandino dos compa\u00f1\u00edas, Cinta y Ala, que si bien nunca volaron a la Argentina, publicitaban en Buenos Aires la posibilidad de viajar a Miami con buenos precios. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Cinta Chilean Airlines (Compa\u00f1\u00eda Internacional de Turismo A\u00e9reo, c\u00f3digo CI) fue fundada alrededor de 1953 y utiliz\u00f3 en sus comienzos Lockheed Lodestar radiados por LAN-Chile. Probablemente en 1957 comenz\u00f3 a volar con DC-4 las rutas Santiago-Antofagasta-Arica-Talara-Miami, y luego Santiago-Arica-Talara-Panam\u00e1-Miami-Nueva York, en abierta competencia con Panagra y cobrando tarifas que en algunos casos se acercaban a la mitad de la de \u00e9sta. Uno de sus socios era Jorge Carnicero, un argentino que aqu\u00ed form\u00f3 Transcontinental. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">Lo divertido de Cinta, que se ve bien en este aviso, fue que siempre aliment\u00f3 la confusi\u00f3n en su marketing. Ellos volaban con Douglas DC-4, mientras que Panagra lo hac\u00eda con DC-6B y DC-7. Los dos eran Douglas, y esto es lo \u00fanico que dice el aviso. La diferencia m\u00e1s visible entre el DC-4 y los modelos m\u00e1s nuevos era que aqu\u00e9l ten\u00eda ventanillas redondas. Los publicitarios chilenos hicieron un recuadro negro alrededor de las ventanillas de sus aviones para que vistas de lejos parecieran cuadradas, y as\u00ed aparecen dibujadas aqu\u00ed. Las m\u00e1quinas de Panagra ten\u00edan un esquema en el que predominaban el verde y el amarillo, las de Cinta tambi\u00e9n. El servicio de Panagra se llamaba \u201cEl Inter Americano\u201d, el de Cinta fue bautizado \u201cEl Latinoamericano\u201d. <\/p>\n<p align=\"justify\">En 1958 LAN-Chile comenz\u00f3 a volar a Miami (con DC-6B) y Aerol\u00edneas en 1959 puso el jet Comet IV en sus rutas americanas. Los tiempos hab\u00edan cambiado y el proyecto de Cinta (que en sus \u00faltimos a\u00f1os estuvo fusionada con Ala) perdi\u00f3 sentido.
