Operaba dos servicios semanales a Europa y tres a Estados Unidos, todos con Douglas DC-6. Su competencia directa ten\u00eda quince servicios a Europa y veinte a Estados Unidos, en casi todos los casos con aviones m\u00e1s modernos (Douglas DC-6B, DC-7B, DC-7C, y Lockheed 1049G).  <\/p>\n<p>Adem\u00e1s, algunas aerol\u00edneas de pa\u00edses americanos (Chile, Per\u00fa) ofrec\u00edan servicios de sexta libertad, algo que siempre existi\u00f3, pero que no fue definido por la Convenci\u00f3n de Chicago y en esa \u00e9poca no ten\u00eda un nombre espec\u00edfico.  <\/p>\n<p>Evidentemente, el pasajero ten\u00eda muchas posibilidades en cuanto a servicios, horarios y hasta tarifas.  <\/p>\n<p>La bandera argentina estaba mal plantada en este mercado, pero hab\u00eda dos planes, absolutamente independientes, para cambiar las cosas. Por el lado del gobierno se hab\u00eda abierto la posibilidad de que empresas argentinas ingresaran al mercado internacional en competencia con Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas, y por el lado de \u00e9sta se hab\u00eda decidido la compra de seis reactores De Havilland Comet 4 para ampliar y mejorar dr\u00e1sticamente los servicios.  <\/p>\n<p>Pero hab\u00eda un problema grave. Ninguno de los dos proyectos pod\u00eda funcionar sin subsidios estatales, y el Estado no ten\u00eda fondos para todos. Flotaba en el aire que el futuro ser\u00eda de Aerol\u00edneas o de las empresas privadas, y as\u00ed se estableci\u00f3 una lucha que, en rigor, todav\u00eda existe.  <\/p>\n<p>Del lado estatista, la mejor espada fue el comodoro Juan Jos\u00e9 G\u00fciraldes que, a pesar de que s\u00f3lo ejerci\u00f3 la presidencia de la empresa algo m\u00e1s de un a\u00f1o, actu\u00f3, disert\u00f3 y escribi\u00f3 como nadie. Del lado de las empresas privadas, la expresi\u00f3n formal fue AATA (Asociaci\u00f3n Argentina de Transportadores A\u00e9reos), cuyo presidente fue el brigadier Juan Fabri.  <\/p>\n<p>Curioso. Dos militares para discutir una cuesti\u00f3n civil. Llegaron hasta a plantearse entre ambos lo que entonces se denominaba eufem\u00edsticamente \u201ccuestiones de honor\u201d.  <\/p>\n<p>La primera empresa privada que sali\u00f3 al ruedo fue Transcontinental. Ten\u00eda serios problemas de capital y, en cierta medida, era un brazo de la norteamericana California Eastern pero, al principio, parec\u00eda dispuesta a comerse a todos. Alquil\u00f3 a California dos Lockheed 1049H Super Constellation que, en ese momento, eran los aviones m\u00e1s modernos que volaban a Estados Unidos y para enfrentar a los Comet 4 de Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas en el futuro, anunci\u00f3 la compra de cinco Convair 880.  <\/p>\n<p>El aviso que mostramos hoy fue publicado en los diarios de Buenos Aires el 7 de octubre de 1958 y muestra, por primera vez en la historia, una empresa privada argentina volando a Estados Unidos, con el agregado de que merced a un pool con REAL Aerov\u00edas Brasil, ofrec\u00eda un servicio diario, algo que solamente Panagra hac\u00eda en ese momento.  <\/p>\n<p>Esa fue una guerra en la que perdimos todos. G\u00fciraldes dur\u00f3 poco en Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas, Transcontinental quebr\u00f3 pronto, los Comet 4 tuvieron muchos accidentes y demostraron ser poco competitivos y el transporte a\u00e9reo argentino, que nunca pudo definir claramente cu\u00e1l era el lugar del estado y cu\u00e1l el de los privados, es hoy uno de los menos desarrollados del continente. <\/p>\n<hr>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>En 1958 Aerol\u00edneas Argentinas era la \u00fanica l\u00ednea argentina que realizaba vuelos internacionales.
