Primero fueron los biplanos M-1, 2, 3 y 4, de brillante carrera en el servicio postal norteamericano durante los a\u00f1os veinte, y en 1933 el DC-1 inici\u00f3 una serie que, antes de la Guerra, llegar\u00eda hasta el DC-3, un avi\u00f3n terrestre de gran capacidad para la \u00e9poca, confiable y, sobre todo, comercialmente rendidor.  <\/p>\n<p>En este punto de la evoluci\u00f3n, el fabricante propuso a las aerol\u00edneas el DC-4, que vol\u00f3 en 1938 y era originalmente un cuatrimotor para 42 pasajeros. Era un avi\u00f3n muy grande y complicado, y ninguna aerol\u00ednea estuvo interesada en comprarlo, por lo que el proyecto se archiv\u00f3, pero antes se le cambi\u00f3 el nombre por DC-4E (E por experimental). S\u00f3lo se construy\u00f3 un ejemplar.  <\/p>\n<p>El paso siguiente fue el DC-5, que hizo su primer vuelo en 1939. Era un bimotor de ala alta, con capacidad para 22 pasajeros, que no pudo competir con el probado y reconocido DC-3. S\u00f3lo se fabric\u00f3 una docena de estas m\u00e1quinas.  <\/p>\n<p>Pero la Guerra, con sus demandas infinitas, asegur\u00f3 la producci\u00f3n de la f\u00e1brica, primero con el DC-3\/C-47, y luego con el DC-4 redise\u00f1ado, que ser\u00eda militarmente el C-54.  <\/p>\n<p>Con la paz vendr\u00eda el DC-6, el primer presurizado de la l\u00ednea, y un genuino \u00e9xito en el mercado civil.  <\/p>\n<p>Pero, al mismo tiempo que mundo aerocomercial se adaptaba a los aviones de nueva generaci\u00f3n, en el entorno de 1950, hab\u00eda disponibilidad de grandes cantidades de DC-3 y DC-4 de segunda mano, que adem\u00e1s eran muy baratos, y pr\u00e1cticamente ten\u00eda copado el mercado de aeronaves de esas categor\u00edas. S\u00f3lo un presurizado mucho m\u00e1s moderno, el Convair Liner interes\u00f3 a las aerol\u00edneas en ese momento.  <\/p>\n<p>Por eso resulta inconcebible que con toda la experiencia acumulada Douglas decidiera lanzar al mercado un DC-3 mejorado, un poco m\u00e1s grande y veloz, que se present\u00f3 como Super DC-3.  <\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.gacetaeronautica.com\/gaceta\/wp-101\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/douglas2.jpg?w=1140\"><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aviso de Douglas publicado en la Revista Nacional de Aeron\u00e1utica en marzo de 1951 (imagen: archivo Pablo Luciano Potenze).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>El problema era el precio, porque se pretendi\u00f3 vender como un avi\u00f3n nuevo, barato pero nuevo, y la opci\u00f3n no funcion\u00f3. S\u00f3lo se hicieron tres ejemplares civiles, que fueron comprados por Capital Airlines. El proyecto fue salvado por la marina norteamericana, que compr\u00f3 algo m\u00e1s de 100 aparatos, a los que denomin\u00f3 R4D.  <\/p>\n<p>El aviso de hoy fue publicado en la Revista Nacional de Aeron\u00e1utica de agosto de 1949, poco despu\u00e9s del primer vuelo del Super DC-3, cuando se pensaba que la m\u00e1quina tendr\u00eda una carrera civil.  <\/p>\n<p>Dos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s, Douglas dec\u00eda en su publicidad que en sus aviones volaba el doble de pasajeros que en los de todos los competidores juntos, y era cierto, pero el m\u00e9rito era de la inmensa cantidad de DC-3 originales construidos durante la guerra.  <\/p>\n<hr>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Douglas fue un fabricante de aviones exitoso.
