Earlier this month, LAN Colombia<\/strong> announced that it had officially joined one<\/b>world\u00ae, thus offering its passengers the leading global airline alliance\u2019s full range of services and benefits effective 1 October 2013<\/strong>. Also on 1 October, TAM Airlines<\/b> announced that it will join the alliance as of 31 March next year<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

TAM\u2019s entry into the alliance strengthens one<\/b>world\u00a0with the addition of the leading carrier in Brazil, the country with the region\u2019s strongest demand and largest economy. The addition of these two airlines will also establish one<\/b>world\u00a0\u00a0as the leading alliance for flights within Latin America and between the region and both the United States and Europe, the most in-demand international destinations for LATAM passengers.<\/p>\n

LAN has been a member of one<\/b>world\u00a0since 2000 and all LAN subsidiary passenger airlines have joined it as affiliate members, including LAN Argentina, LAN Ecuador and LAN Peru. TAM\u2019s Paraguayan affiliate will also become part of one<\/b>world\u00a0at a date to be announced at a later time.<\/p>\n

Colombian celebrations<\/h3>\n

LAN Colombia was welcomed into one<\/b>world\u00a0at a ceremony held at the airline\u2019s Bogot\u00e1 headquarters. Attending were LAN Colombia\u2019s main executives, one<\/b>world\u00a0CEO Bruce Ashby, LATAM Airlines Group\u2019s Vice-President (Strategic Alliances) Soledad Berrios and senior representatives from other one<\/b>world\u00a0airlines serving Colombia, including American Airlines Managing Director (Alliances Latin America) Eduardo Marcos and Iberia\u2019s Country Manager, Mar\u00eda Consuelo S\u00e1nchez.<\/p>\n

LAN Colombia\u2019s Chairman, Nicol\u00e1s Cort\u00e1zar<\/strong>, said \u201cLAN Colombia is very proud to have joined oneworld. For our company, it represents a significant milestone. For our country, it significantly improves our access to the rest of the world, helping attract more business visitors and tourists, enabling Colombians to reach more of the world\u2019s most important business centres worldwide and making it easier to travel the world from any of the destinations we serve throughout Colombia.\u201d<\/p>\n

New benefits for frequent flyers in LAN Colombia and oneworld<\/h3>\n

Effective 1 October, LAN Colombia LANPASS<\/b> frequent flyer program members enjoy privileges whenever they fly with any one<\/b>world\u00a0member airline \u2013 including the ability to earn and redeem awards and earn tier status points when flying on any one<\/b>world\u00a0airline partner. These comprise leading airlines from all the key global regions for business travel, including American Airlines, Iberia, air Berlin, British Airways, Finnair, S7, Cathay Pacific Airways, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian plus another 30 affiliated airlines.<\/p>\n

LANPASS Comodoro<\/b> and Comodoro Black<\/b> cards now have Emerald<\/b> status in oneworld. LANPASS Premium Silver<\/b> is equivalent to one<\/b>world\u00a0Sapphire<\/b> and LANPASS Premium<\/b> equals one<\/b>world\u00a0\u00a0Ruby<\/b>. This entitles their owners to special privileges when travelling on any one<\/b>world\u00a0\u00a0partner, including access to Business Class check-in and, when offered, pre-reserved and preferred seating, and priority on waitlists and on standby when flights are full.<\/p>\n

Sapphire\/Premium Silver members also have access to oneworld\u2019s network of hundreds of Business Class lounges on departure and priority boarding. In addition, Emerald\/Comodoro\/Comodoro Black customers in turn have access to First Class check-in and lounges and to fast tracks through security at selected airports as well as an additional baggage allowance.<\/p>\n

Also, 140 million members of other one<\/strong>world airlines\u2019 frequent flyer programs<\/strong> can now earn and redeem awards and tier status points and receive all other one<\/b>world\u00a0benefits when flying on LAN Colombia.<\/p>\n

Expansion for LAN Colombia, LATAM and oneworld<\/h3>\n

Through its one<\/b>world\u00a0partnership with American Airlines, Iberia and British Airways, LAN Colombia is now able to offer its customers the most popular gateways for Latin American travellers in their Miami<\/strong>, New York<\/strong>, Madrid<\/strong> and London\/Heathrow<\/strong> hubs.<\/p>\n

LAN Colombia is only one of the cornerstones of a one<\/strong>world expansion process presently under way. Three of oneworld\u2019s existing members \u2013 American, Iberia and LAN \u2013 already serve three destinations in Colombia<\/strong>, in Bogot\u00e1, Cali and Medell\u00edn. LAN Colombia expands that to a total of 21 Colombian gateways.<\/p>\n

Across South America<\/strong>, oneworld\u2019s established member airlines already serve 71 destinations in 11 countries. LAN Colombia and TAM will add another 56 airports in the region to that network \u2013 with LAN Colombia bringing 21 airports on board and TAM 35 \u2013 giving one<\/b>world\u00a0\u00a0one of the most extensive alliance coverages of the continent.<\/p>\n

Worldwide<\/strong>, with LAN Colombia, TAM and five other airlines lining up to join, one<\/b>world\u00a0will serve almost 1,000 airports in more than 150 countries, generate 14,000 daily departures, carry 480 million passengers a year on a combined fleet of more than 3,200 aircraft and generate US $ 140 billion in annual revenues.<\/p>\n
