Argentina’s only civil Embraer Bandeirante

Our EMB-110P1 subject was built by Embraer at its Sao José dos Campos (São Paulo) in 1982 and soon found its way into the buoyant United States feeder airlines market of the early 1980s, flying initially with Florida-based Dolphin Airlines and then with Alaska-based Valdez Airlines.

Five years after first flight, however, it relocated South and was flown intensively by Argentine then regional airline Argentine Private Airlines (Líneas Aéreas privadas Argentinas, LAPA) for little over one year until replaced by two Swedish-built Saab 340s.

Crewed by commander De Víctor, copilot José García Leiva and flight mechanic Héctor Suria, it was ferried to Argentina from São José dos Campos (São Paulo) via Porto Alegre (Río Grande do Sul), Colonia (Uruguay) and Aeroparque Jorge Newbery (Buenos Aires), landing there on 12/23/1985.

Accumulating 3,993:25 flight hours and 5,458 cycles at the time of its arrival, the aircraft is believed to have been incorporated into LAPA’s fleet with assistance from Embraer technician, Wladimir Monteiro Carneiro, who had flown into Buenos Aires with the aircraft.

Returning to its home country in early 1987, continued to fly feeder routes with Brasil Central before moving on to the secondary air taxi market in 1989.

By the turn of the century, the aircraft was abandoned in State of Mato Grosso’s capital airport and eventually faded into oblivion.
