Last February 1st was the last commercial flight of an Aerolineas Argentinas Jumbo jet. The aircraft landed at Ezeiza International, closing 35 years of operations, which Boeing 747 was the most outstanding aircraft of the company fleet.
The wait is now nearly over! With little over two weeks to go before the show opens on 27 March, the outlook for FIDAE 2012 is taking final shape, although much of its contents will remain under wraps until later in the month. In the third of three instalments on the forthcoming edition of this traditional Chilean air, space, defence & security fair, we disclose our last news round-up summarizing information gathered in the last two months. Then, we’ll start packing-up before heading out to Pudahuel for our initial on-the-spot reports!
Further to our initial report published in early-December 2011, we continue to update our preview to the 17th edition of the International Air & Space Fair (Feria Internacional del Aire y el Espacio, or FIDAE 2012), which opens up on Wednesday 27 March 2012 in the military sector of Pudahuel’s airport in Santiago de Chile.
Even though it will make a dent in its plans and resources, the economical crisis now looming over most of Europe and the United States will not deter NATO’s continued commitment to combined flying crews training. News coming from Albacete confirm the Spanish air base at Los Llanos will continue to host academic and flying courses for the organization’s Tactical Leadership Programme (TLP). With four months to go to before the show opens, we though it wise to start constructing a preview of what attendees, visitors and the general public will witness in Pudahuel next year. Once again the Spanish Air Force held from 6 to 16 April 2011 one of the most important exercises of the year. It was the Syrian-Storm exercise, in which the Ejercito del Aire seeks to increase and improve its operational capabilities.
Chile has just celebrated the 200th anniversary of its first government out of Spanish colonial rule and its armed forces played a key role in “nation-long” ceremonies. While Army and Navy hosted the main “Fiestas Patrias” (patriotic festivities), military (mainly Air Force) flying elements captured a fair share of the show in the capital and elsewhere.
Coinciding with the exhibition of a C-17A Globemaster III in Chile’s air and space fair in March 2010, Boeing was reported as talking to prospective customers about the creation of a South American consortium to operate the type following a “time-sharing” scheme already developed by several NATO air forces. A busy month in other fields has prevented Aeromilitaria Argentina staff from delving into more elaborate research and edition chores. Thanks to individual reports and other searches, though, a selection of traffic movements recorded throughout Argentina during the month of June was compiled and is listed inside.
